ABOUT KRISTIAN SCHMIDT

Kristian Schmidt is an internationally recognized photographer and visual artist whose work explores the relationship between humanity, wildlife and the natural world.

Known for his cinematic imagery and dramatic juxtapositions, Schmidt creates photographs that blur the boundaries between fine art, fashion and wildlife photography. His work often places the human form alongside some of the world’s most extraordinary animals, creating images that are at once intimate, surreal and monumental. At the heart of these photographs is their authenticity, the encounters are real, captured in camera rather than digitally constructed. It is this rarity—the knowledge that these extraordinary moments genuinely took place that gives the work much of its power and has made the series particularly sought after by collectors.

His work has been exhibited at some of the most prestigious  venues worldwide  including Milk Studios New York, Art Basel Miami, the Cannes Film Festival, Opera Gallery London and Art Monaco. In 2022, Schmidt was named Photographer of the Year during Monaco Fashion Week, with the award presented by HSH Princess Charlene of Monaco.

His Whale Shark series has been in more than 200 publications worldwide.

Business Insider called the series, “Captivating”. The Smithsonian heralded the works as “ethereal”.

Beyond fine art, Schmidt’s wildlife and conservation imagery has contributed to major international productions and projects associated with Jurassic World and Black Panther.
